The Barun Maek mission began on a beach in Thailand. My child had a severe allergic atopy all over his body to the point he could not sleep. As a trained nurse I had strong belief in western medicine to treat my son. I had tried all western doctors methods and failed to alleviate the allergic reactions in my son. Finally on vacation I swam with my son in the salty ocean. The next day all his allergic reactions on his skin were all gone. It was a breakthrough moment. That nature could cure diseases that western medicine could not. From then I began to research alternative understanding of many common diseases. Through this search I came upon the works and disciples of Korean Toaist Kim-Chun Sheik.
From then I began to apply these methods and update them to modern culture in my health room at a rural health room in a Korean elementary school. Soon many members of the community teachers and parents sought me out for advice about treatment in my health room. I gained a reputation for healing and resolving social problems through the lens of traditional Korean Taoism. The belief that which constructs the body, mind and universe as composed of a framework of Ying and Yang and the earth is composed of the five elements. Through lifestyle, behavioural, exercise and recommendations and dietary recommendations or restrictions students, teachers and parents soon aligned to the universal construct and health, psychological, and sociological problems were resolved.
Through adherence to Korean Toaist model for the universe I learned to quickly identify those who were out of balance and rectify this through Korean Taoism. I became so well known that I made my own education company that spreads the teaching of Korean Toasim and promotes the foods of Toaist as a way to align with the universe. I have been spreading the teachings of my ancestors since 2007. Now 13 years on I believe it is time to bring these powerful teachings to America as well as maintain my own business which now flourishes in Korea.
Eunji Lee Spitler was trained as a medical nurse at Gyeoungnam national university and worked for Busan University hospital before quitting to pass her health teacher license after giving birth to her second first child. Beating out 700 people for 9 slots the chances were slim but she overcame them. A theme throughout her life. After a severe bus accident where she witnessed many people died she began her slow recovery to fully heal despite having bones and her knee severely broken. Later she delivered her second and third child despite warning from doctors about possible permanent damage to her hips. Finally she began to study traditional folk practitioners of taoist medicine throughout korean after her son's incurable allergic atrophy recovered after he soaked in salt water on the beach of thailand. She became even more engrossed in natural healing from Taoism and in her position as health teacher did everything she could to promote it for her students and the community. She also led a successful campaign to stop water fluoridation in her rural school district. Later she was elected head teacher, which was the first and only instance in Korea as a health teacher to be incharge of all teachers. She also led a coalition to require health teachers be present in all Korean schools. Her reputation for healing using Toaist methods spread in the local community and soon many parents were visiting for healing as well as students in her health classroom. This was clearly her calling and in 2007 she quit her position (something never done in Korean Society) and opened an early form of Barun Maek saeng sheik and Barun Maek Academy. She designed several courses that have served hundreds that were eager to learn about their roots in Korean society and challenge modern conventions about health and life. At the age of 44 she gave birth to her last child with a midwife without anesthetics only assisted by her husband and one assistant.
Almost 14 years later she is proud to begin her business in the United States to spread Korean traditional folk culture to others.
